I am at a point in my life where I am asking myself how can I better myself. How can I do all the things I want to do. How can I see all the places I want to see. How can I be a better father, husband. How can I get all out of life that I want. I keep getting the same answer.
Stop doing the things that are defeating your wants.
WTF! What does that mean?
Stop the things you do that bring temporary wants rather than the true wants you truly desire.
So, I stopped drinking for a month. it was the first time I went camping without drinking. I actually relaxed and caught up on the needed rest my body needed. Then, I changed the way I ate food. I limited the amounts of food I stuffed down my throat. And in a month I’ve lost 10lbs. lastly, I started focusing on what I do and where I want to take it. Everything that I had been meaning to do toward getting out on my own I started doing. Business I needed to take care of, calls I needed to make. Then something weird happened. I started making money.
Weird! Is getting what you want really that easy?
I am living proof that living toward your wants and desires is better than reliving the same cycle week after week chasing shadows that aren’t there. Men are programmed from birth to compete. Then to turn 21 and begin dosing ourselves to feel numb. Society fools us into believing that this is living. Round and round we go. Most men can handle drinking in moderation, but how often and frequent does the pain go.
Take my challenge. Can you stop doing the things that are defeating your wants and desires? For three months, choose to not consume alcohol, eat moderately, fit in some exercise and most of all focus on what you want to accomplish, what you have been meaning to do or start. See if the cloud, the fog, the haze, goes away, see what I see. Life is meant for so much more than what is advertised. Make your mark in this world. It is the only shot you have. Cool.
